Pessimism by an Australian mining firm in the PH

While the mining potentials of the Philipines are big, government policies, national and local, can be a hindrance. See this story from the Inquirer.

The company added that “(T)here have been no material developments since March/April 2017 in the processing of the ECC” for the new TSF,

This is not a good development. It should be noted that until early May 2017, Gina Lopez was still the DENR Secretary. Her appointment was finally rejected by the Commission on Appointments on May 03. So Lopez and her team deliberately sat on the ECC application of an open pit mine.

It has been two months since new DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu assumed leadership but it seems that there were no significant pronouncements reversing the jurassic policies of Ms. Lopez. Is Mr. Cimatu still on a steep learning curve of the industry?

Meanwhile an update from MGB Region 13, CARAGA covering the four provinces of Agusan Norte and Sur, and Surigao Norte and Sur.
